On Sunday October 11th, 2015, the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation hosted its 32nd annual “Run for Education” in San Ramon. The event, primarily used as a fundraiser for the schools in the San Ramon Valley Unified District, drew 10,000 participants from the neighboring community, ranging from avid runners to the casual joggers, all in support of the community and the schools. The event offered 3 types of races: a 10k Timed Run, a 5k Timed Run, and a 5k Fun Run, with each event starting at either in Iron Horse Middle School or Charlotte Wood Middle School. There were also many big sponsors that helped host this event, mainly Chevron.
APAPA had its share in the event as well. APAPA has a couple high school volunteers, including me, who were able to help facilitate the event. Instead of sleeping in, we all had to get to the event by 6:00 in the morning on a Sunday to help set up the event. We found our spots as the volunteers to help runners check in and pick up their bib in time for the race. The event we were helping out with was the 10k event, and although it sounds like an event for the experienced runners, people of all ages and sizes still made it out to participate in the event. Watching the runners take off at 8:00 was a surreal experience; it was truly amazing to see so much support from people all over the San Ramon area for our schools, as well as the city, and despite any differences between groups or organizations, come together as one and support the education of the next generations of students.
